Some soreness or swelling is normal for the first few days after implant surgery and can typically be managed by following your dentist’s post-operative care instructions. Most patients return to their normal routine within a few days, though full healing and bonding with the jawbone takes longer. Your treatment team will walk you through what to expect at each stage, from placement to your final restoration.
Almost anyone with one or more missing or damaged teeth may be a candidate for dental implants. Dr. Matievich will examine your teeth and discuss your options to determine whether implants are the right fit for your smile.
Dental implants are designed to look and function like natural teeth, which also means they can be affected by injury or trauma just as natural teeth can. With proper care, though, implants can last a lifetime.
Dental insurance may cover implants to some extent, depending on your plan, so it’s a good idea to check with your provider about your coverage. Our Rochester Hills team can also walk you through financing options, including CareCredit® and our in-house Smile Easy Savings Plan, to help make treatment more manageable.
Dental implants are fixed to the bone and aren’t removable, so they aren’t a direct substitute for dentures. That said, implants can sometimes be used to stabilize existing dentures. Whether that approach makes sense for you is something we can discuss during your initial visit to our Rochester Hills dental office.
An initial consultation with an oral surgeon of your choice is the first step. We will be glad to refer you to a qualified doctor in your area if necessary. The initial phase of treatment begins with the oral surgeon. Your implant will be surgically placed, and our practice will fit and place the crown restoration for you. An implant generally takes several months to finish but is in most instances the healthiest, most reliable and longest lasting restoration option.
